Serial Number Controlled Items
Use the Serial Number function to be able to trace individual Products and Assemblies from the time they’re received into stock (on a Purchase Order), to when they’re consigned to a Customer Order.
To trace batches of Products and Assemblies instead of individual items, refer to Batch Controlled Items.
Mark an item as Serial Number Controlled
To be able to mark Products or Assemblies as Serial Number Controlled, you’ll need to have appropriate user access to the Product Catalogue module.
1. Go to Product Catalogue > Products or Assemblies (depending on what type of item you want to mark as Serial Number Controlled).
2. Select the existing Product or Assembly you want to mark as Serial Number Controlled or create a new Product or Assembly.
3. Under Additional Information on the right-hand side, toggle the Serial Number Controlled option to Yes.
The Serial Number Controlled option can only be edited when there is zero stock of the selected item. If there are items in stock, you’ll need to make a Stock Adjustment to temporarily remove the stock, adjust the Serial Number Controlled option, and then make a second Stock Adjustment to return the items into stock. When returning the items into stock, you’ll need to enter the Serial Number for each item (either manually or using a barcode scanner).
4. Click Save to save your changes.
