Workhorse makes catch of the day easier for GT products
About GT Products
For over 30 years, GT Products has built its business from a caravan in a back garden to a £1.5m turnover business providing products to multiple specialist sectors across commercial fishing, viticulture, horticulture and packaging.
They now carry over 3000 products across two warehouses, from oil-skins to lobster pots and sticky tape. As the business is continuing to grow fast, it became clear that the 20 year-old database and manual processes were no longer fit for purpose.
GT Products wanted a single, transparent system
Head of IT, Daniel Evans took on the challenge of creating a single system, that gave them transparency over all elements of the business and enabled a consistent process where they could track orders from birth to sale that ensured nothing was lost.
“When I started researching options, I was amazed how so many off-the-shelf business software products didn’t do what they needed to do, “ commented Evans.
“It was important to us that the new system enabled us to be proactive and show us where we were making money – and not. This meant removing unnecessary processes. In the past we had lost staff because systems were old, clunky and labour-intensive.”
“Workhorse is now at the heart of the progress of the company, it’s a game-changer.”

Transforming the business With Workhorse
Order Management – Inventory – Invoicing – Reporting –
Integrations (website e-commerce & Sage Accounts) – Dashboards – Task Scheduling
Previously the business relied on Sage and ACT CRM which couldn’t be updated as the business grew and it meant a lot of double-keying. The new Workhorse Order & Inventory Management System integrated with Xero, enables GT Products to track all orders throughout their lifecycle, intuitively tracking their stock and providing business reports to a level they were previously unable to do. Now able to identify which products are best-sellers versus what’s not been sold, they can even automatically debt-chase.
The game-changer
With the power to properly track KPIs and identify where they aren’t making money, they can achieve cost-savings, capitalising on freeing up resources within the business with the aim of becoming totally paper-free. Online sales are now automatically flowing through the system and the warehouse can now pick its own orders and time spent on invoicing has been vastly reduced.
Evans foresees the business now becoming evermore proactive rather than reactive, taking out all the unnecessary jobs. Workhorse will enable them to re-focus and adapt to more flexible job roles with remote log-in, meaning they can expand with remote workers and a growing sales force across the UK.
“Workhorse is now at the heart of the progress of the company, it’s a game-changer,” added Evans. “It’s the building blocks, we’ve built an entire system around Workhorse and it’s become our central hub.”
